When new digital systems are deployed, that is the begining of the project not the end. How clincians adapt and design new workflows is where the real work and the real opportunities lie.

Dr Robert Wachter's quote above comes from his experience in Digitisation in the US Healthcare system, and in reviewing the failure of the National Programme for IT to deliver as expected in NHS England. Too often digital systems are adopted to fit in with existing ways of working, with not enough time or thought devoted to transforming the workflows which the new technologies produce.
I have successfully led teams through the 'adaptive change' process of digital sytems in clinical settings. Making sure that the infrastructure - technical and organisational - is reday to recieve new technology is vital. If the ground isn't prepared, the fruits of these systems will not be borne.
